Our Mission
We are dedicated to making a difference, both in the lives of the consumer, and in the lives of hard working farmers and small business owners across the country. Our maps and directories are designed to provide consumers with local, high-quality regeneratively and responsibly raised nutrition, centered around proteins, meat, and animal products. We are committed to connecting consumers with regenerative, sustainable, local, family-owned farms and businesses, cutting out the middlemen and large corporatizations, allowing consumers to purchase directly from their community, ensuring the highest quality nutrition at unbeatable prices.
Supporting our local producers decentralizes our food system and increases demand, keeping them in business and helping us maintain these critical resources for future generations. Decentralizing our food system is the only way to restore our food sovereignty, maintain our access to healthy unadulterated food, and combat inflation in the food industry. Local Meat Map was created with this vision in mind.
Why Shop Local?
A shift has occurred over the last half century that has made the America dependent on the industrial food complex, or "Big Food". On the surface this may not sound like such a bad thing. These large corporations produce ample amounts of food and make it readily available to consumers all over the country. Never before has food been so plentiful and in such a wide variety, but this comes at a price. These giant corporations are profit-driven, meaning their primary focus is to provide as much food at as little cost as possible.
Modern farming practices have led to mono crops and over-farming which depletes the soil and does little to replenish the land with rich, organic matter that produces life. Because of this, farms have resorted to the use of highly toxic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, and GMOs. The result is produce that is toxic and nutrient void, and that produce is often then refined, processed, and turned into shelf stable food full of harmful additives, preservatives, and artificial ingredients. These foods now make up over 70% of the average American’s diet.
These large corporations also own the meat industry, controlling over 85% of the market. Due to consolidation, they fix the markets by setting prices that drive local farmers out of business, raising costs for consumers This results in the population becoming even more dependent on "Big Food".
When it comes to meat, they import over 80% of the meat on grocery store shelves. Even if it says "Product of the U.S." or has a USDA stamp of approval, it was probably imported from a foreign country, as long as it was packed in a U.S. based facility.
In 1945 it is estimated that 45% of Americans grew and produced their own food. As of 2022, that number has decreased to 0.1%. In 1880, over 50% of Americans were employed in agriculture. Today, that number is below 2%, with over 30% of that being farms that are owned by mega-corporations. This shift has led to the degradation of the health of our nation.
Change will not come from the top, it starts with us. Every person that supports their local community is not only gaining access to healthier food, they're also strengthening their community, taking power away from "Big Food" and returning it to the people. Farmers that were on the verge of being driven out of business now have a chance to thrive. As more farmer move to regenerative farming practices, the century of abuse that the soil has suffered will also be given the chance to recover. Breaking away from "Big Food" might just be the key to true health and a self-sufficient, thriving America.

"Local farms, family-owned businesses, and the hard-working men & women that run them are the backbone of this country. It seems we've forgotten that, but together, we'll remind the world of a better time, and that time is now."
